Only one week left! And we have had some very busy days here in Maidenhead.
It seems about 200 things need to be sorted out before we are going on our adventure. It started off with a leak under the floorboards back in January that has been going on for a bit. The wooden floors in the hallway were taken up and big fans were put there to dry them out. When another man came to see if they had been dried he said the wall between our toilet and kitchen was damp as well. He had another man come to take the plaster off the wall and put another fan to dry that. It has been noisy to say the least! The floors and walls are now dry! We have chosen the new floors and are waiting for them to be put down and walls to be fixed!
Then we have had people over to look at a new garage door as ours is 40 years old. Our tenants that are renting the house wanted to park their can in the garage so we needed a new door so they can use it. It is also better that I will be able to park there when we get back.
Yesterday we had people to look at the gas and electrics to issue a certificate to say it is all ok. It turns out that the guy who owned our house before did it himself and he has overloaded the fuse box. So we will have to wait to get that fixed as well.
We then had 70 boxes arrive from Norway with all our things. Henry was very excited to get all his toys back, me on the other hand wasn’t so excited to have to unpack them all. But we have ordered a skip so we are having a good clear out. Only saving things we really need or want. We have even cleared the garage out and got rid of lots of rubbish from there.
We gave a few things away on freecycle. It is a great website where you put things up that you don’t want or need and you give them away for free. And I think we have been to the recycling centre about 20 times with lots of things and rubbish from the garden.
Stephen and his dad have also been building shelves in the garage and in the attic, so now we can store things properly.
In-between all this we have been to parks, on playdates with Henrys friends and sorting out the garden. This morning we went into Maidenhead to get some last bits for the holiday and bumped into the Prime Minister (who is our local MP) doing a bit of campaigning.
It is so much fun finally being here at our home. Henry loves it.
